Renewed Volkswagen Tharu
The Volkswagen Tharu compact crossover appeared in the brand’s lineup at the end of 2018. Under this name it is known only in China, in Argentina and Mexico it is Taos. For all these years, the closest relative of the Skoda Karoq has never been updated. Only now, after four and a half years, it was decided to make some adjustments.
Initially the design of the Volkswagen Tharu was developed in the same style as the larger Teramont. This trend has been kept only with the updates of Chinese Teramont.
Refreshed Tharu boasts a two-storey grille and new, horizontally split headlights. In the top versions, they are connected by a luminous strip. Luminous bridge appeared in the taillights. The front fenders and bumpers are also slightly changed. In the rear, the fake exhaust pipes are gone. As a result, the overall length of the model increased by symbolic 5 mm, up to 4458 mm. Black decoration, including side mirrors and tricolor wheels are offered for extra charge.
The display of the multimedia system after the upgrade is integrated and equipped with new online features. In addition, the touchscreen diagonal is increased from 9.2 to 12.0 inches. The steering wheel of the updated Tharu with touch keys, and the ventilation deflectors lost the flap to shut off the air flow.
The change also took place in the engine lineup. The place of the old turbocharged 1.4 TSI with 150 hp and 250 Nm was taken by a new 1.5 TSI generating 160 hp and 250 Nm. Powered by a seven-speed DQ200 robot with two dry clutches and front wheel drive.
Turbocharged 2.0 TSI engine, producing 186 hp and 320 Nm of torque is available for extra charge. Crossovers with such engine are equipped with a seven-speed gearbox DQ381 with wet clutches and all-wheel drive with a clutch to connect the rear axle.
Serial production of the updated Volkswagen Tharu at the joint venture SAIC-Volkswagen in China will begin in the spring of 2023. Prices have not yet been announced. The current version on the local market costs from 23 to 32 thousand dollars.
